A small update on where Play Outside is headed and why it matters to us

When I started Play Outside Co., the vision was pretty simple.

Make the shirt I couldn't find anywhere else. The one that worked for the boat and the trail and the school pickup line. Soft enough for my sensory-sensitive kid. Protective enough to stop thinking about sunscreen every forty-five minutes. Sustainable enough to feel good about buying. One shirt that actually did the job.

What I didn't fully anticipate was how many other families were looking for exactly the same thing.

What's Been Happening

The past year has been a lot. In the best way.

The ONE Shirt found its people: outdoor moms, adventure families, parents of sensory-sensitive kids who had tried everything else. Our reviews started filling up with people saying things like "we live in these" and "my kid asks to wear her mountain shirt every day." That feedback is what keeps a small brand going through the hard parts of building something from scratch.

We added new colorways. We refined the fit. We launched the mom and mini matching bundles because the requests were too consistent to ignore. We built our Osomtex recycling partnership into every order so that buying Play Outside removes more textile waste from the system than it adds. We've been quietly building something we're proud of.

And now we're ready to take the next step.

Going Wholesale

This Sunday, Play Outside Co. is heading to the Three Palms Trade Show in New Smyrna Beach, one of the best surf and outdoor retail trade shows in Florida.

Trade shows like this are where small brands meet the shop owners and buyers who can put their products in front of new communities. For us, that means getting The ONE Shirt into the hands of surf shops, outdoor retailers, and coastal boutiques who serve the same families we've been building for all along.

It's a big step. And it's one we've been working toward since the beginning.

What's Coming Next

The men's shirts are dropping in June, right in time for Father's Day. After the most common request we've gotten since launching, we finally have a version that meets the same standard as The ONE Shirt for women and kids: bamboo UPF 50+, temperature-regulating, anti-odor, soft enough to want to wear it every day.

Dad and mini matching is coming with it. We're not going to pretend we aren't excited about that.

Why Any of This Matters

Play Outside started because I wanted better options for my own family. It grew because it turned out a lot of other families wanted the same thing.

The goal was never to be the biggest outdoor brand. It was to be the most useful one for the specific kind of family that actually lives outside, the kind that hikes before it gets hot, packs light, and cares about what their gear is made of and where it ends up.

Every step we take, from the Osomtex partnership to the trade show circuit to the men's collection, is in service of that same original idea. A shirt worth wearing. A brand worth trusting.
