The Permission You Never Needed to Go Outside
A reminder nobody asked for, from a brand that thinks you should go anyway
Published: July 7, 2026 | Women's Outdoor Life | Play Outside Co.
At some point, and I am not sure exactly when, a lot of us started treating outdoor time like a reward.
Something you get after the dishes are done. After the kids are settled. After the emails are answered and the permission has been granted from the invisible jury that evaluates whether you have been good enough yet today to deserve a morning outside.
I am here to tell you that jury is not real. And even if it were, you would have already won.
Nobody Waits for Permission to Watch TV
Here is the thing that gets me. We do not need to earn the couch. Nobody finishes a long day and thinks "have I done enough to deserve this Netflix episode?" We just sit down. The couch does not require justification.
But going outside? Somehow that needs a reason. A plan. A slot in the schedule that other people can look at and confirm is acceptable.
This is ridiculous and we should stop doing it.
Going outside is not a treat. It is not a reward for productivity. It is a completely normal thing a human being does because she is a human being who lives on a planet with an outside. You do not need to earn it. You just need to go.
What "Going Outside" Actually Means for Active Women
I want to be specific here because I think the phrase "go outside" gets hijacked by images that have nothing to do with most of our lives.
It does not mean a three-hour trail run. It does not mean a paddleboard at sunrise with perfect lighting and a smoothie. It does not mean organized, productive, photogenic outdoor time that could double as a brand campaign.
It means the 20-minute walk you take because you needed to think. The morning run that is slow and sweaty and entirely for you. The afternoon you decide to just sit somewhere that is not indoors and breathe for a minute. The Saturday that is not optimized for anyone else.
Research consistently shows that even short, regular time outside reduces cortisol, improves mood, and does something for the nervous system that no amount of indoor productivity can replicate. You probably already knew that. You just kept putting it off.
The Outfit Is Not the Point. But It Does Not Hurt.
I am not going to tell you that the right outfit will change your life. That would be embarrassing.
What I will say is that getting dressed for outside in something that actually feels good makes it about three degrees easier to go. And sometimes three degrees is the difference between going and not going.
The FLEX Tank is what I reach for when I am going somewhere between the gym and the trail and possibly lunch afterward. Reversible, convertible, bamboo, UPF 50. Wear it with a rounded neckline or flip it for a V-neck. Tie it or leave it loose. One tank, whatever the morning becomes. The ALL Tank is the version for when you want something simple, soft, and flattering without thinking about it. Same bamboo, same UPF 50, same "I got dressed in thirty seconds and feel good" energy.
Both are 25% off all July. Because going outside should not require a budget meeting either.
The Only Thing Left to Figure Out Is When
Not whether. When.
That is the whole shift. Moving "going outside" from the category of things you might deserve someday into the category of things that are just part of your week, like groceries and sleep and coffee that you did not make yourself.
Put it in the calendar. Treat it like the appointment it is. Then go.
The outside will be there. It always is.
